Skincare Routine - Summer 2015

Hello! So due to the fact that I have quite heavily updated my skincare routine in the past few weeks, I thought I would share it with you. I have had problems with my skin since the start of my teens and have been trying to find a solution to them, but it's difficult and I still haven't found the right one! However, this new skincare routine is helping my skin a much more significant amount than before.

I tend to get quite dry skin in areas like my nose and my t-zone, a lot of redness on my cheeks, spots usually on my chin or forehead and generally quite an uneven tone all round - yeah I know, not exactly the clearest of skins, ha! But that's what life gave me - thanks puberty!

I'd like to think my routine is quite simple and very affordable. All of the products I have been using at the moment are drugstore items but I do plan on branching out to higher end products in the near future, purely because I have heard some amazing reviews about a certain few products and I am eager to see whether they are worth the money!

First off, I take my Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover, shake it well and place a small bit onto a cotton pad and remove the majority of my make up. I know it specifically says 'eye make up' remover but it actually works rather well when taking off my face make up also. This product is a two-phase formula; the oil phase removes the make up whilst the aqueous phase protects and cares for the eyelashes. It leaves no oily residue and is very light on the face and leaves it feeling smooth and looking fresh.

Secondly I take my Nivea Soothing Cleansing Mousse and squirt a small amount into the palm of my hand and gently massage it onto my face. This product is great for dry and sensitive skin and really helps to clear your face of any dirt and remaining make up which may not have been removed beforehand. It is very cooling and refreshing on the skin and leaves you feeling super smooth due to the soft foam formula. This product in particular has a lovely scent and the bottle lasts for ages! I have been using it everyday, twice a day, for weeks now and it still looks barely touched. I don't think this product will be leaving my routine any time soon.

Using a toner is a great way of removing the final traces of make up and cleanser and really refreshes and clarifies your skin. I use Simple Soothing Facial Toner and I put a small amount of this onto a cotton pad and move in in small circular motions all around my face. It is very cooling and leaves your skin feeling amazing. I love Simple's products because they are 100% alcohol free and so the products are not drying on your skin at all - which definitely benefits me, being a dry skin sufferer. I think it's safe to say that I definitely would not be able to live without a toner! This product is by far one of my favourites in my routine.

I then take the Simple Soothing Facial Scrub, apply a small amount onto my fingers and rub it together, before massaging it gently across my face, making sure to focus a little more on the dry patches of my face. A facial scrub is definitely a must needed product in my skin care routine purely because it allows your skin to be deeply cleansed by removing the dirt and grime which may have gone that little bit deeper into your skin, clogging up your pores. I suffer from spots, like a lot of people and it's proven that the biggest contributor to spots is a build up of sebum, which is a natural oil that appears on the skin, clogging your pores. By using a facial scrub this prevents the build up of sebum, leaving your skin feeling super hydrated and extra clean! For dry skin sufferers it also helps to remove the 'flakey' skin. A facial scrub, in my opinion, is best used before a moisturiser to really get those last remnants of dirt of the skin, leaving a fresh surface to be able to moisturise on and leave your skin feeling amazing!

So after cleansing and exfoliating my skin, one of the final steps in my skincare routine is to moisturise. I cannot stress how important it is to moisturise your skin daily. Especially if you have dry skin like me, it is so hard to keep your skin looking fresh, so having a good moisturiser is way up there in the list of important products to have to hand. The thing I like about this moisturiser in particular, is that is has SPF in it, so it is perfect for adding a little bit of protection to your skin when going out in hot and sunny conditions. I just squeeze a small amount into my hand and apply it all over my face, making sure I rub it in well and I like to focus my moisturiser a little more around the dry patches like my nose and t-zone.

Lastly in my daily skincare routine, I finish off with an eye cream. I feel this is a very important step for me because I struggle with under eye circles and dry corners of my eyes, which occasionally crack and become really red and sore (i got told this is due to my hay fever) so I have to make sure that I keep my eyes hydrated and replenished. I have yet to find an eye cream which is outstanding, but this eye cream from Simple is as good as I can get at the moment, it is very hydrating and gentle on my eyes but can slightly irritate my eyes if they are cracked and sore, but otherwise this eye cream is very worth the buy and I would recommend it to those who just need to make their eyes look a little bit more awake! You only need a very small amount of this product because as the saying goes 'a little goes a long way'.

Now, about once or twice a week, I like to really pamper myself by using a face mask and really getting into my pores and having a bit of deep cleansing. So recently, I have been grabbing the Vitamin E Hydrating Moisture Mask from Superdrug. This honestly leaves my skin feeling so hydrated and irresistibly smooth (i'm not even exaggerating!) Simply, rub this all over your face and leave it to really work for about 10-15 minutes before wiping it off with a damp cloth and your skin will feel smoother than a baby's bottom.

There's no doubt that my skincare routine will continue to change, but this is how it stands for now. I will be sure to update you on any changes in the near future so keep your eyes peeled!

Disclaimer: This is NOT a sponsored post, nor am I getting paid to review these products. I bought all these with my own money and all opinions are 100% my own.

What does your skincare routine consist of? Is there any product that is really worth the buy? Anything that works amazingly for dry skin?
